Matthew Espenshade, D.O.

Dr. Espenshade joined Arlington Orthopedics in July of 2009 and sees patients in need of orthopedic care at our Harrisburg location and Fulton County Medical Center. He is a specialist in general orthopedic surgery.  His training and experience include unique competencies in the areas of Total Joint Replacement, Fracture Care, and Sports Medicine and has been board certified since 2011.

During his residency, Dr. Espenshade received state of the art training involving total joint replacement, spine surgery, and arthroscopic orthopedic procedures.  His areas of expertise include soft tissue sparing joint replacement, total knee replacement, quick recovery total hip replacement and shoulder replacement. He has also received extensive training in arthroscopic shoulder and knee reconstruction, including all arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs. Dr. Espenshade also treats general pediatric orthopedic problems and disorders in the hand, foot and ankle.

A native of central PA, Dr. Espenshade graduated from Lower Dauphin High School in 1996.  After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Richmond in Richmond, VA, Dr. Espenshade received his Medical Degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004.  He completed his internship and residency at Pinnacle Health Hospitals in Harrisburg, PA in 2009. He served as chief resident during his final year of residency training. He also furthered his residency training at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center focusing on pediatric orthopedics, trauma and foot and ankle surgery.

Dr. Espenshade has operating privileges at the UPMC Pinnacle, Fulton County Medical Center and performs outpatient surgery at the Susquehanna Valley Surgery Center.

Dr. Espenshade currently serves as one of the team physicians of Penn Football Club (formally Harrisburg City Islanders) and was the former team physician for the Lebanon Valley College Ice Hockey Team.  He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO), Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA), and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
